Several local basketball players have been selected to The Roanoke Times 2024 All-Timesland girls and boys basketball teams highlighting the student-athletes who excelled on the court this season.
One of the top players honored was Carroll County’s Alyssa Ervin, who was selected as Player of the Year.
The newspaper wrote that Ervin was a prolific scorer and tenacious defender with the ability to take over games and keep her foot on the gas. She put up some strong numbers that might never be repeated in Southwest Virginia.
Ervin, who plans to play her college ball at Elon University, scored a staggering 33.5 points per game during her senior season, the second-highest average in Virginia Hight School League girls basketball history. During the season, she recorded six 40-point performances, including a 47-point shocker to go over the 2,000 point mark. She also set the Carroll County school scoring record.
Scoring was only part of her game. The 5-foot-10 guard also grabbed eight rebounds a game while dishing out three assists and turning in 4.3 steals.
Ervin helped lead the Cavaliers to a 22-5 record and another appearance in the Class 3 state tournament. She helped lead the Cavaliers to back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023.
Other awards she received include the Class 3 Player of the Year for the second consecutive season, plus the Region 3D Player of the Year and the Three Rivers District Player of the year.
