In addition to the presidential election, there will also be a U.S. Senate seat on the November ballot this year, which means another primary this summer.
Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) is seeking a third term, and eight contenders are expected to run for the Republican nomination in a June 18 primary.
Here are some dates to remember ahead of the Republican primary:
• The first day of in-person early voting at your local registrar’s office is May 3.
• The deadline to register to vote, or update an existing registration is May 28. Voters may register after this date, through Election Day, and vote using a provisional ballot.
• The deadline to apply for a ballot to be mailed to you is June 7. Your request must be received by your local voter registration office by 5 p.m. that day.
• Voter registration offices will be open for early voting on Saturday, June 8.
• The last day of in-person early voting at your local voter registration office is Saturday, June 15, at 5 p.m.
According to the Virginia Mercury, “Kaine comfortably defeated former Gov. George Allen in 2012 and won a blowout victory over hard-right Republican Corey Stewart in 2018. In 2020, when Virginia also had a U.S. Senate race alongside Trump on the ballot, U.S. Sen. Mark Warner (D-Va) beat Republican Daniel Gade by 12 percentage points.”
